During the summer months, our dogs enjoy plenty of long walks in grassy fields. Occasionally they can pick up a stray grass seed, which can become embedded in a foot or ear and cause a lot of discomfort. When Darcy came in to see Sarah with a sore ear last week, she quite rightly had this in mind.
Darcy’s owners had noticed her scratching at her ear and shaking her head vigorously.
Using her otoscope, Sarah could see a tiny piece of “something” deep in her ear canal and after discussion, it was agreed to admit Darcy, give her a short sedation and explore her ear more fully.
An hour later a very long grass seed was duly removed. Fortunately, as it was caught early, no long term damage was done. What a relief for all concerned!
