Rabbit Vaccination Clinic

8 Dec 2017

We will be running a Rabbit Vaccination clinic for an emerging disease of rabbits in the UK known as Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Diarrhoea 2 (RVHD2 for short). This is related to a classic, primary strain known as RVHD1.

We already vaccinate against RHVD1 in our annual vaccinations which also protects against myxomatosis.  We can now vaccinate for RVHD2, as an additional vaccine on top of the general vaccine we already offer.

The two RHVD viruses are similar in the disease that they cause and the symptoms that rabbits show – both are lethal and can cause internal bleeding, often leading to death in just a few days, and in fact sometimes the only sign shown is sudden death.

This second, emerging virus of RVHD2 has been recorded in the UK from 2013, and has now been confirmed locally, but we can now offer a reliable vaccine that can protect a rabbit against this new strain. It is given as a 6 monthly injection, 2 weeks apart from the already existing routine vaccination.

If you would like to have your rabbit vaccinated against this disease we are running 2 clinics next week for this.

Our RVHD2 Vaccination Clinics for pre-booked appointments will be held on:

Tuesday 12th December between 5-6pm

Thursday 14th December between 4-5pm

The cost for this vaccine will be £29.76

If you would like to have your rabbit vaccinated against this disease, please contact the practice to book your appointment.

If you have any concerns or questions on this new strain, please get in touch and we can answer any questions you may have.
