A recent study has found that ticks are more widespread and numerous than previously thought. Ticks can carry Lyme disease and other serious illnesses which may impact your family and your pet. With trends like climate change and increased pet travel, the threat is increasing all the time.
Shepton Vets are proud to be involved in this nationwide survey, in conjunction with Bristol University. Last year the focus was on dogs and over 6,000 ticks were collected and analysed.
This year it is all about cats! The study aims to assess the numbers and types of ticks found on cats in the UK.
If you suspect your cat may have a tick, please phone the surgery and book an appointment for a FREE TICK CHECK with one of our Veterinary Nurses. Any ticks found on your cat will be collected for The Big Tick Project. We can also provide advice on treatment and prevention of ticks for your cat.
To check as many cats as possible, we may ask to check your pet whilst they are in for a routine visit.
