Where have I worked previously?
I worked in Kingston Hospital MRI from the age of 17 -26 on a part time basis.
I’ve done loads of placements and EMS in various veterinary practices and charities across the country. Most of my favourite ones have been in Devon and Somerset where I chose to start my new career due to my love of this part of the country.
What do I enjoy most about working at Shepton Vets?
Though I’ve only been working here a short time, I know that I have chosen the right place as my first job. I could tell on my interview day that the feel here is of a family. Everyone is very friendly and kind to each other, they seem to make the work day brighter by being good friends and supporting each other through the day. I can tell that everyone is supportive. From the interview to my first day I have been supported by everyone in the practice, from the receptionists to the managers. No question is stupid, and no judgment is placed. For this reason I think it is going to be a really good environment for me to grow and better myself in my profession. It’s a team like this that make you not dread coming to work.
What am I passionate about, in your work, for Shepton vets, In the veterinary industry?
At the moment I’m still developing my passions, but I can say that through my studies I have really enjoyed learning about the pathologies of skin. I especially really like looking at things under microscopes, whether it be blood smears, ear cytology or anything like that. I think it I enjoy that form of diagnostics so much because I had to do it so much in my previous course, and I just like seeing and identifying small little bugs to point me to a treatment.
Other things I am passionate about is endocrine pathologies and general medicine, though they can be scary at first, I really do like being able to fit in the puzzle pieces to a case, and figure something out to really improve a patients quality of life.
What accomplishments am I most proud of in your career?
Really just making it through vet school and becoming a qualified vet. There were many ups and downs to the last 8 years of studying, and I am proud that I’ve been able to get here.
Do I have animals at home?
A little French bulldog puppy called Leia
What do I think sets Shepton and Wells Vets apart from competitors?
The warm and friendly environment between staff. The relationship that the staff have with their clients. And their want to go above and beyond to help every animal on an individual basis.
What are my hobbies or interests outside of work?
I read a lot, mostly fantasy. I also like to draw and paint, and am currently working to decorate my new house with various pieces of art that I don’t have to buy (because art is expensive!). I also was very into running, rock climbing and cycling until my last year of uni, and hope to pick these up again once I’m more settled. I also would love to join a local netball team, but I’d need to find one. I also really enjoy acting/ musical theatre. I haven’t been part of a group in years, but again I’m hoping to find an amateur group that is local to just get back into that a bit. I know there is a theatre in Wells, so that will be mu first place to look.
What is something most people don’t know about me?
I LOVE orangutans, and it will be my life long dream to meet one.
