Veterinary Nursing, level 3

Where have I worked previously?

I carried out my nurse training at a small, independent practice in Ilminster, Somerset.
Before my nursing started, I use to be a team leader at homebase alongside my animal management course.

What are my responsibilities?

I look after our in-house lab at Shepton, I’m also known as the “Lab Queen”. I ensure the machines are running correctly and carry out quality controls monthly. I am also a clinical supervisor, so provide training to our student nurses as they complete their nursing course.

What do I enjoy most about working at Shepton Vets?

The team. Even though we are busy- we all support each other and get each other through the long days. We also love a social gathering!!

What am I passionate about in the veterinary industry?

Animal welfare. Ensuring every patient is treated as if they were my own and given the best possible care.

What accomplishments am I most proud of in your career?

Qualifying… 3 years of blood sweat and tears!!! It’s really not an easy course, with the added pressure of working full time and being included in the “out of hours” rota alongside.

Share a memorable or heartwarming experience had with a patient?

Not a specific experience… but I don’t think you can beat a C-section when you have worked hard reviving the puppies and they take their first little squeak. Very heartwarming!

Do I have animals at home?

I have a 3 year old Labrador, called Arlo. He has the biggest head I have ever seen!!! He is a real gentle giant.

What sets Shepton and Wells Vets apart from competitors?

Independent, empathetic and always working to the best of our abilities.

What is something most people don’t know?

I am an identical twin.
