Leah Lane

Veterinary Care Assistant

What are my responsibilities?

I support all the Vets and Nurses with their daily roles such a preparing surgical kit, running bloods in our inhouse lab, scrubbing into procedures, and taking care of the kennels and cattery. I also help run our puppy evenings at Wells!

What do I enjoy most about working at Shepton Vets?

The opportunity to help animals and provide them with the best care. You will often find me in a kennel offering essential cuddles and belly rubs.

What am I passionate about in the veterinary industry?

Animal welfare. I am extremely passionate about dogs, particularly large/giant breeds. I have a strong interest in behavioural issues such as aggression and anxiety, rehabilitation, and critical care. Also feel deeply about charity work and helping in extreme circumstances.. At our vets, we treat of patients from registered charities such as Cats in Distress and Happy landings Rescue. I have worked closely with the Uk German Shepherd Recuse for the last few years.

Share a memorable or heartwarming experience had with a patient?

Ralph was my first case of an emaciated dog. Sadly, through no fault of his own ralph had found himself in a situation where he did not have food, water or anything of nutritional value for quite some time. He was extremely malnourished and dehydrated.  Throughout all of Ralphs care that I was part of he remained so sweet and so kind which was a hugely rewarding experience and a reminder of how unconditional a dog’s love is.

Do I have animals at home?

Yes, I have my first-born son, Bagheera the German Shepherd. He is the light of my life the ultimate best friend a girl could have. Handsome, smart, funny he is the full package! I am also a proud auntie to 4 other German Shepherds (Esme, Lucy, Deano and Naya) and 1 Doberman (Douglas or better known as Doug the Thug)

What sets Shepton and Wells Vets apart from competitors?

The team and our genuine love for all animals. We are dedicated to making sure that the highest standard of care is provided and treat all animals as we would our own offering both the relief for owners and pets knowing they will be safe and care for.
