About the course:

Why choose this course?

Heifers are the future of your herd. It is essential to give them the best start in life which will enable them to grow on and thrive as a profitable lactating animal on your farm.

Our intro to calving course is aimed at people new to calf rearing as well as those who would like to refresh their knowledge. We will cover the theory of youngstock management from birth to weaning, as well some basic practical skills, such as tubing a calf.

 

Key learning objectives:

  • To understand the essentials of good colostrum management
  • To understand the essentials of a good environment for calf rearing
  • To be able to confidently place a tube in a calf
  • To understand the essentials of pre-weaned calf nutrition
  • To understand how to successfully wean a calf
  • To understand the essentials of post-weaned calf nutrition
  • To have an understanding of the common calf diseases and treatment of these

Yes. Please contact the farm office if you have any special dietary requirements.

Cost/Fees:

£150 + VAT per person A £50/per person deposit will be payable upon booking. The balance will be due 2 days before the course start date.

Payment options: You will be contacted following your reservation to complete your booking form and payment.

Cancellation policies: Cancellations up to 10 working days before the course will result in a full refund. Please contact the office if you need to cancel. Further details are outlined in the booking form. Shepton Vets reserve the right to cancel a course if the minimum delegates number is not reached.
