Mastering Medicines Cours

Why choose this course?

Our aim is that every delegate goes home not only with a better understanding of the medicines that they use on farm, but also some practical steps that they can take on farm to maximize the effectiveness of the medicines that they use and some key areas where they can take action to reduce the requirement for medicine use.

This course is run as an interactive group session with lots of discussion as we go through the topics and case studies to allow for further discussion and ensure that all delegates have achieved a good understanding of the course material by the end of the session. We take a short break for lunch during the session. All the information is summarized in a course workbook that is provided for each delegate to take home.

The Mastering Medicines Course is a Red Tractor approved course on the responsible use of medicines. The course aims to increase awareness of different classes of medicine, enhance knowledge of how different medicines work and how to use them effectively and responsibly as well as understanding antimicrobial resistance. By increasing awareness and knowledge we aim to drive the best practice use of medicines on farms.

During the course we go through four major classes of medicine (vaccines, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anthelmintics), what they do and when to use them. Lottie is an experienced Medicines trainer

Our courses are fully Vet led.

“I find this a really rewarding course to lead. Often people enroll as a tick box exercise to satisfy farm assurance, but by the end of the session everyone is really engaged in the

subject and has a selection of practical things that they can put into action on their own farm.

We often have a real variety of different farms represented in a group, from smallholders to sheep, beef and dairy, which leads to really interesting variety of cases to discuss. The nature of the course means that regardless of the level of prior knowledge or experience everyone can gain something from taking part.

For dairy farmers it makes a really beneficial course to attend alongside the Milksure course as it covers a different side of medicine use.”
