Paddy has dedicated more than 30 years to working alongside dairy farmers. His journey with Shepton Vets began in 1989 when he joined the practice as a veterinary student, learning not only clinical skills from the experienced vets of the time but also the values that continue to shape his career: hard work, professionalism and respect for clients.

Throughout his career at Shepton Vets, Paddy has focused on providing practical health and management advice across all aspects of dairy production medicine. He is passionate about delivering the highest standards of veterinary care, helping farmers improve the health, welfare and productivity of their herds.

Paddy was one of the first vets in the UK to use the roll-and-toggle technique to correct left displaced abomasums (LDAs) in cows. At a time when the BSE crisis had placed enormous pressure on the farming industry, this innovative approach improved cow health and productivity, saved farmers money, and enabled many animals to be treated successfully rather than being culled.

Beyond clinical practice, Paddy has worked as an independent veterinary adviser to Tesco on Dairy Standards for over a decade. He has also collaborated extensively with pharmaceutical companies, contributing to product trials, regulatory work, marketing support and the development of new veterinary medicines. His practice-based research was recognised with the BCVA Kentucky Prize in both 2002 and 2005.

Education has always been an important part of Paddy’s career. He has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students, working with three veterinary schools and delivering fertility training for newly qualified vets over many years. He also served for six years on the BCVA Council, where he was responsible for postgraduate education.

In recognition of his contribution to the veterinary profession, Paddy received an industry award for Services to the Profession in 2007.

From July 2026, Paddy stepped back from clinical farm practice at Shepton Vets. He continues to work closely with the practice as a consultant, mentoring the next generation of farm vets and sharing the wealth of knowledge gained throughout his distinguished career. Alongside this, Paddy serves on the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Council and continues his longstanding role as Veterinary Surgeon to the Royal Bath & West Show.
