Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2023:
Farms can now apply for a grant for purchases that benefit animal health and welfare. Defra recommend that you seek vet advice before applying. We can advise on whether any application will improve health / welfare on a specific farm and advise on the best systems to prevent you being reliant on a salesman
Vet advice could come via an animal health and welfare review or vet advice can be sought via more usual routes- give us a call or ask us while on farm…
This grant offers funding to contribute to a specific list of equipment to increase productivity, boost environmental sustainability, better manage slurry and improve animal health and welfare.
The DEFRA website makes the following recommendation to applicants:
We strongly recommend that you talk to a vet before you apply for animal health and welfare items. They can advise you if the items you’re applying for will help you improve the health and welfare of your livestock. You can get advice by phone, email, or as part of a vet visit. You may be eligible to apply for a fully funded vet visit as part of the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway.
The items in the list offer improvements in the health and welfare of livestock, potentially helping farmers improve biosecurity or decrease environmental stress.
Item scoring
The FETF 2023 grant is competitive, and all who apply will not automatically get a grant. Each item has a score assigned to it based on DEFRA’s assessment of how well it meets its objectives. More information on how DEFRA will assess scores can be found here (pages 4-5). If the scheme is oversubscribed, funding will be allocated to those items with the highest score first.
Applications
The Animal Health and Welfare portal is open for applications from 23rd March until midday on 15th June 2023. Here’s a link to the application portal and here’s a Youtube information video on how to apply.
